I can't believe I've let things go for this long! It seems like time just flies now and it's hard to fit (and remember) everything in. Well, better late than never! Here goes...

Lucas is 9 months now! Can you believe it?! I have a hard time with it myself. He almost looks like a little boy now versus a little baby. He had his 9 month check up last week and here are the stats: 20 lbs 12 oz (53 percentile) 28.9" (71 percentile). He is getting so big but his rate of growth has slowed down a bit. He gets up on his hands and knees but can't quite seem to start officially crawling yet.

He gets around fast though-don't get me wrong! He has mastered the art of the 'inch worm.' Lucas has developed quite the 'tude and sense of humor. His new favorite things to do are: blowing out of his mouth making the 'F' sound, eating pancakes (this is serious business for him), burping-this sounds more like an 'AHH!' then anything else, sticking a toy into Daisy's mouth and then putting it back into his, singing along with mom and many other funny and usually loud things I could mention.

The month of October we have done quite a bit. He is still swimming and seems to have really gotten the hang of it! He even attempted to blow bubbles under water which is pretty amazing. We also started to hang out at the library for story telling which is a lot of fun. Tons of kids and they get to read books, sing songs and play with toys.

We went pumpkin picking with auntie Beth this past week! Lucas loved wheel barreling-I swear that kid could have hung out in that barrel for the entire day. Hah! Also, yesterday was Halloween and we went to the Mount Vernon trick-or-treat event. They blocked off the entire main street downtown and over 20 businesses handed out candy. TONS of people showed up, it was pretty amazing. (and fun!) I really enjoyed the sense of community. Our favorite costumes seen were: a St. Bernard spray painted as a tiger, a weird looking dude painted silver with a space pack on his back and a guitar pedal around his neck and the crazy hat lady standing outside the Lincoln Theatre. Also, the entire cast of Scooby Doo.

Well, one thing is for certain-time flies when you are having fun! I'll try and blog it up again by Thanksgiving! Time just fliiiies by, I'm tellin' ya! So, our little (haha) Lucas is now 6 MONTHS OLD! A lot has happened since I've been able to post a couple of months ago. Lucas is now rolling over like crazy. We will turn our head for a second and he's on the other side of the room! He also loves to "talk" to us and knows his name very well. Just a few days ago he started to scoot. (backwards!)

Lucas had his check-up today and Dr. Sandra says he is a very happy, healthy boy. It's fun to see how much he's grown so here are the stats: 19lbs in weight-73rd percentile, 28 inches in height-92nd percentile. He was also very brave for his shots-cried this time but calmed down quickly.

We are starting our busy schedule next month. Lucas gets to go to Skippers class at the Y and will also try out some Gymboree classes so he can make some friends and have some fun playtime. Also, the library offers story time for babies which we will try and fit in as well. AND, once I figure out some children songs on the guitar we plan on hosting 'Musical Story Time' at my mom's store once a week. (KidsStuff will keep you updated on that in case you want to bring your kids)

I have some video but my little laptop is full up on memory so I'll have to wait until Colin is finished fixing my normal pc to post one or two. Almost there! Lucas has been growing like a weed! We went in for our 4 month check-up today and Lucas now weighs 16 lbs 14 oz (80th percentile!) and is 26.5 inches tall! (90th percentile!!!) Plus, he didn't cry when he got his shots! Brave little boy =)

Lucas has already been through 2 colds, upgraded to the 'big boy bed,'(crib) developed some major pipes (loves to squeal and scream), found his footsies, grabs at everything (seems to really want dad's beer bottle the most!), rolls over consistently from his back to his belly, and is developing quite the sense of humor. ( he'd love to stick his tongue out at you! )

Tonight Lucas will be trying his first spoonful of rice cereal!! I will try to get his reaction on film and post it. He has seemed really interested in what we are eating since he was about 2 1/2 months so I'm looking forward to finally being able to feed him some real grub.

Anyway, he is growing so fast it's hard to keep up! I know I keep saying this but we WILL have a bbq at some point! Days are a blur for us now it seems so hard to plan anything anymore. But I'm going to try my darnedest.

Hope everyone was able to catch some rays last weekend, it was awesome out! (also, don't forget to catch L's video below)

Love, A C and L

<object width="320" height="266" class="BLOG_video_class" The real "exciting" stuff comes a little over a minute in. haha

Today Lucas discovered how to laugh! He's done little giggles here and there for awhile but now he sounds like a full blown precocious little boy when he lets out a laugh. Hopefully I'll be able to get that on video soon and post it!

Also, Lucas slept until 3am last night! 3am!! I'm still baffled. We are keeping our fingers crossed that it will be the same tonight and keeps up in this direction. (he's been sleeping until 1-2am for the last couple of weeks)

Anyway, Lucas will be 11 weeks only tomorrow! That means, he will be 3 months old next Friday which is pretty damn amazing if you ask me. Time flies!

Hope you like the video, have a great Friday tomorrow!

Aubree & Lucas

Growing Up

Hey everyone, it's been awhile since I have been able to post anything. Right now everything I do I have to do one-handed including typing! So, emails and the such tend to take me about a day or so to write. haha

Anyway, Lucas just had his 2 month check-up yesterday and the ped. said he was perfect. He got measured and weighed and is a BIG BOY. Over 24 inches long which puts him in the 90th percentile for length. He now weighs 12lbs 11.5oz.

Colin and I are finally starting to feel better adapted to our new family and schedule (or lack thereof) and are seriously enjoying our little man. He's smiling a ton, cooing and trying very hard to hold his head up by himself.(will post a video soon)

So, we would love to have a meet-and-greet with Lucas soon, hopefully in the next few weeks here. I'll try and keep up with the blog, and I promise to post a video very soon!

Love, Aubree

Finally!!!!!!!!

Hello Everyone! This will be a very quick blog-our baby is napping at the moment but who knows how long that will last. Please forgive the typos, errors etc.

Introducing-formally known by Beany Clark, now....

LUCAS HAVEN CLARK

Born: 1/23/09 7:44pm

8lbs 6oz 21inches long

He is the most perfect, amazing little bitty person you could ever imagine. We all think he looks a lot like Colin and he also has a nice head of hair-hair that has a bit of curl in it. He is gorgeous!

Labor was long-lasted about 30hrs and finally had a C-section. I'm slowely but surely recovering from that-can't wait to move around like a normal person! Anyway, I could care less because Lucas is amazing, healthy and that's all I care about.

PS: he has the biggest baby feet you have ever seen!

Here is a link for some pics: share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8AcN2TJu4YtGPM

Mighty Walrus

Howdy! So, our due date is THIS SUNDAY! I can't believe it, it seems to have gone by so fast. Well, the last few weeks are actually dragging by for me. That may be due to the fact that I can barely drag MYSELF around from place to place.

I was told I should take some bare belly shots before it's too late, and I posted one here. Looks a bit abstract-anyone read Dune? haha

So, basically this is where Colin, the baby and I are at: I went to the Dr's a couple of days ago and I haven't progressed so the Dr thinks it safest to induce which he scheduled for the 25th. Of course, I could still ( and hopefully will ) go into labor before then. If I haven't gone into labor by the 21st then I have another appt where they will do a stress-test on the baby and check amniotic fluid levels. Right now Dr. Jordan says everything is looking good-good heart rate, etc.

SO, looking on the bright side, the latest everyone will have their baby is the 25th! It's hard to imagine! If you have any questions just shoot me an email. I'll try and keep everyone up to date.

**Small update: We had the stress test and fluid level check today-mon (vs weds) and everything is normal.

Happy New Year!

37 weeks pregnant-Yvette & Alan's wedding-Blue Ribbon-Lake Union, Seattle

Almost time....

Hey! Hope everyone had a great Christmas! Colin and I received a spiffy, new camera from my parents so I decided to take some pics of the nursery to share. We still don't have anything up on the walls but I think it's coming along nicely. All the essentials are there and that's what counts!

Went to the Dr. yesterday and the baby is head down so that's a great sign. Any day now we could have this little guy. I definitely have that big belly full of jelly thing going on-Ho, ho. I love the holidays as you all know, although I can't move around like I want to. No Christmas lights on the house this year but we did end up with the biggest tree we've ever gotten. Funny how that happened! Now we just need to put some presents underneath and we're set!

I've figured out that if you're really pregnant, you're really funny. This theory has been tested and now proven due to my recent stint at Teatro Zinzanni. Colin and I went with his company on Friday to Teatro Zinzanni and I was taken to the middle of the tent in front of 200+ people by Chef Caesar. It was a lot of fun, a little embarrassing, and honestly made our night! I couldn't stop laughing and the actor couldn't either. It's ALWAYS a laugh when you make the hugely pregnant chick do a pelvic thrust! haha

Today Colin and I went outside to frolic in the snow-we got a few inches here in the convergence zone. I've posted a little slide show below, sorry but Colin refused to get his picture taken so it's just me and the dogs. ( I know, boring! )

Anyway, I hope that everyone is having a great holiday season so far-I know I am even if I am pretty stuck at home right now. If I could, I would go see the light display at the zoo. I would also recommend driving to Snoqualmie, see the best neighborhood Christmas lights (the house at the end of our block puts on an awesome display every year) and catch a Holiday concert. Or just chill at home like me with a cup of good hot chocolate watching a Christmas flick.

Happy Holidays! Today I officially start my 34th week! (I'm 1/2 way through my 8th month) At week 34 if we went into preterm labor the baby would be a-okay. (short stay in neonatel unit) So, this is a great milestone to hit in pregnancy! (and at 37 weeks-42 weeks is when a mom is considered fullterm-meaning we could go into labor at anytime from that point on)

On average the baby weighs about 5lbs right now and is 17-18 inches long. It still baffles me how big my belly is! Speaking of my belly, some of you know I've had some pretty bad belly pain. It's finally been diagnosed and if you are curious click this link to read a little about it.

Yesterday Colin and I went to our first birth prep. class at the hospital. Learned quite a few things about getting through labor and I'm crossing my fingers that we can get through it without any drugs. (although I am certainly ready to take that epidural if I need it!) I think Colin is going to make a great coach-he's already giving me more backrubs without me asking. haha ;)

If you have any questions about it all, just ask! That's it for now, I'll be posting another blog soon though. So we have finally finished painting the nursery! WOOHOO! As promised, here are a few before, during and after pics. The room is a funky shape so unfortunately you only get to see 1/2 of it. In the before pic, the other side of the room was painted lavender if you can believe it. Anyway, we worked hard and it turned out great! Tonight the crib goes in and I'll try to get my butt in gear and get that posted quickly. Have a great weekend!

BEFORE

PRIMED

FIRST COAT

SECOND COAT

AFTER

Yes We Can!

preggodorknus

Both Colin and I are thrilled about the election results last night! I have personally never been this involved in an election before and it really goes to show you how important it is for all of us to care enough to make the effort and go out there and vote. I feel better about our country knowing that we now have an intelligent, focused and open-minded leader! Now for the long and slow road to recovery....Anyway, just had to share a little bit of the excitement!

This weekend we will be painting the nursery with a little help from Colin's sisters Kristin and Megan. I've been told I'm not allowed to stand on any ladders or chairs (Colin's order) so I guess I'll be in charge of the low areas. haha Great to get that going and done so we can move in baby stuff galore! I'll post the before and after pics for that soon.

PS: Only 2.5 weeks away until the shower! (and 3 weeks until Thanksgiving-can't wait for all of that yummy food!)

PPS: If you are wondering about the pic-that was Halloween. Didn't dress up as a nun like I wanted (couldn't get myself to spend the moola on the outfit) but I had fun with the blue wig for awhile. Colin had a fro but wouldn't allow me to take his picture! And yes, I'm a super-dork. I'm 7 months preggo here btw.

Love,

Aubree

Time Flies

Wow! So, I've finally hit my 3rd trimester. (I'm 28 weeks pregnant. -7 months-) It seems like yesterday when Colin and I first told both of our families on Mother's day we were pregnant. (that was really fun by the way) It all seems so "real" to me now and I'm definitely feeling huge. I know I'll get bigger but when you can't get up by yourself (Colin has to hoist me out of our beanbag or I would be stuck there forever) or buckle your shoes with out help you start to feel like an elephant. Or at least a walrus. No complaints though, I am very psyched to be in the final phase!

Some things I am looking forward to in the next three months (other than having the baby of course!):

1. HOLIDAYS
If you know me AT ALL you know I'm nuts about the holidays, especially Christmas. I don't care that it's a cheesy, mass consuming scene- I tend to let all of my cynicism go and just LOVE IT. I would recommend watching White Christmas with Bing Crosby, making Christmas treats, and singing Christmas songs at the top of your lungs. And don't worry, I'll have a nice huge blog when December rolls around. Most likely more than one. Probably many. In any case, I haven't forgotten Halloween as well (which is only a week away here ) and Thanksgiving. (FOOD!)

2. Baby Shower
Yup, the baby shower is coming up and I'm really looking forward to having a super girly, no boys allowed baby shower. (well, except the one I'm carrying of course-he's allowed) I'm hoping the nursery will be painted by then-that's the goal!

3. Tour of birthing suites and birthing class
This should be fun, or at least interesting. Providence here in Everett has a very nice Women and Children's building where we will be giving birth in January. Check out the link if you are curious. I thought about heading up to Swedish when I found out I was pregnant but did some research on the hospital here and was impressed. Very nice birthing suites and care. (plus my good friend Charlotte's mom works in the maternity ward as a nurse!)

Also, check out the new forum I've set up. Let Colin and I know when you bet the baby will be born. Whomever gets the closest to the actual birth date will get some sour cream chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese frosting. (I'm telling you they're better than money) So, make your bet and don't forget to put your name so I know who to make the cupcakes for!

"Having a child is surely the most beautifully irrational act that two people in love can commit."-Bill Cosby

It's Pumpkin Time

Hi Peeps,

It was a gorgeous day out today so Colin and I decided to visit Biringer Farm and hunt for the perfect pumpkins. Took some shots on the point and shoot ( thanks Kristin for letting us borrow it ) and thought I would post them since I've had a few new belly pic requests. Anyway, can't wait to carve these beauts up! Yes, me.

So, I've had some 'writer's block' (I don't consider myself a writer so that term cracks me up a bit) lately and haven't blogged in awhile. I want to apologize to all of those avid fans out there who have had to wait in great anticipation for the next blog to pop-up. lol ;)

What I wanted to write about this morning was how I've let go (for the most part) of feeling guilty about doing things for myself. Being pregnant, I've found that the majority of my thoughts center about the baby, bringing the house up to par for the baby, saving money for the baby etc. My priorities have shifted and instead of feeling guilty about wanting to do things for myself or for my family I've figured out that it's OKAY to think about yourself. Yes, me.

We all deserve to be 'selfish' once in awhile and not worry about what this person thinks, or what that person wants you to do instead. It's very freeing. And, especially if you're pregnant you realize that after the baby comes-your world becomes theirs. So, I say INDULGE YOURSELF and flip the bird to anyone who thinks otherwise. haha

Anyway, I've come up with a list of things I think pregnant women should do before the baby comes. Some of these things I would love to do myself but are currently out of my means, but others are totally doable and I plan on going down my list and checking them off one by one.

1. Have a girl's night.
Wish I had some pictures from the only-women-allowed "poker" (we didn't quite get to the poker part) night last night because I had a wonderful time. Whether you prefer poker, twister or just chatting about how much you passionately hate Sarah Palin I think it's important to connect with some fabulous girls before you don't have the time in your schedule to do so anymore. Thank you again Kristin for setting the night up!

2. Date night!
Colin and I plan on having at least one romantic date night out before the baby comes. Quiet dinner and a movie. We already do a date-like dinner at home (about every other weekend) where we are not allowed to talk about work or finances. But we both still want to get out for an official date before we become a three-some versus a two-some.

3. Spa time, baby.
It's expensive but I definitely plan on taking one day while I'm pregnant and pampering myself with a loooong massage, pedicure and manicure. I totally deserve it damn it. Even if you aren't pregnant I think it's pretty important to do this sort of thing a couple times a year. It personally helps me feel beautiful and relax.

4. Just say NO.
If you don't want to do it, just say NO. It's easier than you think. (kick that guilt-monster in the ass) Some people may have a hard time hearing 'no' from you if they are used to 'yes,' but you know what? Who cares?

5. Get away from it all.
Hopefully I will be able to swing this before the baby comes but I believe you should definately attempt to take a weekend out of town with some good friends or your hubby. ( or both! ) I would love to spend the night in Seattle or Vancouver and do some serious window shopping and great eating. Or maybe trek over to one of the islands. Time for yourself is going to become scarce so live it up while you can!

6. SLEEP
Get it while you can.

7. Take a class.
I love learning new things. If it's within your budget take a class and learn something you've always wanted to learn. French, Greek mythology, welding etc. Just take the class because you are interested in it not because you have to.

8. DO NOTHING.
Last but not least-just do nothing. I give you permission. In fact, I am ordering you to become a couch potato right now! I've always been an avid reader, but lately my passion for laying in bed and reading ( also feels good on my back! ) has hit an all time high.

So, I hope everyone is indulging themselves this weekend! Drink a frothy pint of beer for me.

Love, Aubree

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://colinaubree.blogspot.com/2008/10/me-yes-me.html' title='Me? I would like to have you send me (via email) your favorite pic of you,us, groups of us etc etc that I can add to the friends & family photo album I'm adding to this page. It's a challenge I know-and the funnier or cuter the better! Best photo gets a secret prize. ;) (I'll most likely set up a vote for that here)

I've also updated a couple of things-mostly favorite links which you can find on the right hand panel of the blog. If you have a website and/or blog please send me the URL so we can link up. Next weekend Colin and I plan on clearing out what used to be the 'Guest-Art-Storage-Everything Else-Room' and then it will be time to paint! We have decided on a fairly neutral color 'theme' based on the bedding we found. Chocolates, khakis, creams-you know what I'm talking about.

I've had a lot fun with the Benjamin Moore website. They have this feature (check it out!) that allows you to pick a room and paint it virtually. You may choose wall, trim and accent color. Great to get some ideas! Also I just think it's such a cool and user-friendly website. (yes, I go around and look for cool websites-I'm a dorky graphics nerd!)

I've "commissioned" my dad to draw us something for the wall and I've also found some fun prints at Art.com that we are thinking about using. I'm hoping Colin and I can restrain ourselves from making the room too puppy-centric. It's so hard when there are so many cute puppy items out there!

Anyway, just a little tidbit on the nursery today. We are almost 6 months a long here so it's time we got started! I plan on painting the room myself, so if any of you out there want to help (pizza will be served!) just shoot me an email. Once everything gets started I will be posting photos on the progress.

Thanks and have a wonderful week!

Aubree

PS: On a side note I would like to congratulate my mom on her new managerial position at KidStuff in Mount Vernon, WA. Such fun kid's toys and items-our son is going to be spoiled!!

PPS: Colin also has a new and very challenging software engineer position in Seattle as most of you know. I wanted to do a big write up on it here but you know how modest he is. I think a small post-post-script won't embarrass him though ;)

The Name Game

Afternoon everyone!

Both Colin and I have loved receiving name suggestions and please feel free to keep suggesting names in our suggestion box. Thank you so much for your input!

However, right now we think it would be ideal to keep any names from here on out we are considering a secret in order to make it that much more fun and special until we have the baby. Strong opinions have a way of making things complicated and we think you would all agree that by keeping it a surprise the name will be fresh and exciting.

Unfortunately this means that we will not be discussing baby names with anyone from here on out. Sorry folks, please don't take it personally! But please, feel free to keep up with the suggestions of your personal baby name choice in our suggestion box if you like-we will still be keeping an eye on it.

It's a beautiful day so get out there while it lasts! (haha, I crack me up) So, the autumnal equinox is Sept. 22nd this year and I thought this would be a good time to get some friends together. It's been a long time since we've had a shindig up in our neck of the woods. ( hard to get people to make the trek-yes I'm trying to work the guilt angle ;) ) Leave me a comment if you would like for an excuse to drive up to beauuooootiful Everett for a fallish soiree this month.

I long ago decided that fall is my favorite time of year. I love the changing of seasons, crisp cool air, gold and red leaves etc. I always feel calm and expectant. For this blog I've made a slideshow of all things autumn in Washington as well as linked to a few things I believe you might be interested in during this time of year. Please enjoy and if you have any suggestions let me know!

Happy Fall!

Leavenworth Autumn Festival & Octoberfest
Not only does Leavenworth have one festival to celebrate autumn, but TWO. If you could only go to one, I would recommend Octoberfest. Lots of great Bavarian treats, German beer, parades and music!

Northwest Pumpkin Patches
Everyone loves to carve pumpkins! Here is a list of all of the pumpkin patches in Washington. I think Charlie Brown would agree that this is the way to pick out your pumpkin. This website also links to corn mazes, hay rides etc.

Washington Arboretum and Butchart Gardens
If you want to immerse yourself in autumn flora and fauna I recommend walking (or kayaking around) the Washington Arboretum or spending the day at Buchart Gardens in Victoria, BC. At Butchart the Japanese gardens in fall are amazing! Little did we know that we would be throwing ourselves into a chaotic, loud and somewhat annoying world of all things baby. We mainly wanted to pick out a couple of big items such as a crib and stroller. We figured we would need to play around with these items first before we could decide and do everything else online.

Cribs first. We walked the crib circuit a few times and finally decided on a first choice and were pretty impressed with ourselves. I could feel my stomach rumbling but decided to ignore it and swing our way to the stroller section for what I thought would be an easy and fun experience. I'd already picked out my top 4 online and all I wanted to do was have someone show us the ropes on how to use them. No problem, right?

Only 1 of my selections from online was actually in-store and after waiting 20 mins-which seems like an eternity when you are pregnant and hungry-a salesperson finally came over to show us the ropes. Unfortunately she took me away from the stroller I wanted help with and tried to sell me a different one. Big mistake on her part. I honestly felt like ripping someones head off and eating it by that point and hers was looking mighty tasty.

Attempting to swallow my ever-rising temper, I took her back to our stroller of choice and requested a demonstration. It took her about 10mins to figure out how to collapse it and then another 10 to apologize for herself and another 10 to tell me there wasn't a car seat that attached to it and then another 10 for me to show her that indeed a car seat DID attach to it.

It took us 30 seconds to skip the joint.

I guess the moral of the story is-REGISTER ONLINE. I have learned more than my fair share about strollers, cribs, playpens, and all things baby by doing my research beforehand. Talk to other parents, that's the best advice you can receive. I picked out most of my items from top customer product ratings and friends advice. It will save you on gas, time, headaches, hunger pains and an argument with your partner. I guarantee it!

Here is a list of suggestions that I found helpful for getting over what I believe is the seriously overwhelming chore of figuring out what you need to get for your new baby.

1. New Parent's Checklist
Babys'r'us has a great one online albeit the list is large and less about must-haves then about must-wants. I used this as a good starting off point and then compared it to my friends advice, other online sources and books.

2. The Real Deal Guide to Pregnancy by Erika Lenkert
This was the first book I purchased when I found out I was pregnant and it contains a plethora of honest advice including a must-have list of baby items you will need to get. Also contains some good online sources too.

3. Consumer Reports
Really helpful for choosing your crib, car seat and stroller. I would never have learned that my first choice of car seats had a recall if I hadn't have gone to this site.

4. Customer Ratings
This is probably the most important thing I used to make my final decisions. There isn't better advice then a new parent trying the product and reporting back their experience with it. On Babys'r'us you can sort your search by Top Ratings which I highly recommend.

All in all, it SHOULD be a fun experience and if you are like me and like to avoid dealing with loud, large crowds then online is the way to go. I had a lot of fun once I did my research. If you feel like checking out our registry you can find it here.

Drum roll please....

Don't Deny Yourself

Today is Cute Day. I've created a slide show of all things baby which in turn means all things cute. Babies of all sorts and sizes! Daisy showcases her howling talents, and I've included a few of my favorite shots of babies from friends as well. Don't deny it, you like CUTE!

Please enjoy the slide show, hopefully it brightens your day. Also, I would love to add more pictures of friends babies, puppies, kittens-you name it. Although, if you know me at all ( and hopefully you do ) you might be thinking, " how is that different than before?" I have always enjoyed figuring out what to eat, watching food shows, talking about food, tasting, trying new foods, finding wonderful restaurants.... and did I mention eating? Now take that up a few hundred notches and you are where I am at right now: FOODCENTRIC.

Pregnant women have to avoid certain foods. For example: smoked meats, soft cheeses, alcohol, certain seafoods like swordfish, raw seafoods, deli meats, excessive caffeine etc. Now, I'm not having too hard of a time with this. (even not being able to eat goat cheese I've accepted nicely) BUT there is one thing that I absolutely crave, and at times might kill- or at least maim for: BEER. When I see someone drinking a frothy micro brew my mouth fills with saliva and I have a serious urge to grab their beer and run away as fast as my belly will allow! Oh the carbonation, the hoppiness, GIVE ME BEER LORD! If you drink a beer in front of me, I'm just warning you-be afraid, be very afraid.

All that being said, I mainly wanted to focus on my top 10 list of the best pregnant foods I have encountered thus far. I also have a yummy recipe I think you should try out, pregnant or not. And another fair warning: If you are seeking a prenatal-diet role model, don't look to me. My willpower for denying myself something that is dripping with greasy, cheesy goodness is very low. VERY low.

TOP 10 FOODCENTRIC PREGNANT FOODS

1. Chicken Tikka Masala
Oh so spicy, creamy and wonderfully scrumptious! I adore it and so should you. Check out the recipe and dig in. I'm spoiled because Colin makes his own naan bread. That's right people, Colin makes naan bread. And it's AWESOME.

INGREDIENTS
1 cup yogurt
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
4 teaspoons salt, or to taste
3 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces
4 long skewers

1 tablespoon butter
1 clove garlic, minced
1 jalapeno pepper, finely chopped (don't forget to seed these!)
2 teaspoons ground cumin
2 teaspoons paprika
salt to taste
1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
1 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

DIRECTIONS
In a large bowl, combine yogurt, lemon juice, 2 teaspoons cumin, cinnamon, cayenne, black pepper, ginger, and 4 teaspoons salt. Stir in chicken, cover, and refrigerate for 1 hour.
Preheat a grill for high heat.
Lightly oil the grill grate. Thread chicken onto skewers, and discard marinade. Grill until juices run clear, about 5 minutes on each side.
Melt butter in a large heavy skillet over medium heat. Saute garlic and jalapeno for 1 minute. Season with 2 teaspoons cumin, paprika, and salt. Stir in tomato sauce and cream. Simmer on low heat until sauce thickens, about 20 minutes. Add grilled chicken, and simmer for 10 minutes. Transfer to a serving platter, and garnish with fresh cilantro

2. Malena's Taco Shop-3 rolled chicken tacos
For a total of $5 bucks you cannot beat this meal. Not only is it about as authentic Mexican food as you can get in Seattle, it's CHEAP. The 3-rolled chicken tacos are deep fried, rolled up perfection topped with guac, shredded cheddar, Mexican cheese, tomatos and lettuce. Located on upper Queen Anne in Seattle it's worth the trip, every time! And did I mention their salsa is the best I've ever tasted?! Here's a review and directions from the SeattlePI if you are interested: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/dining/venue.asp?venueID=1126

3. Sushi Zen bento box w/california rolls
I'm not allowed to eat raw fish so California rolls are about as close as I can get. Voted top 3 in Seattle 2005, Sushi Zen offers a large moderately priced bento box for lunch which includes your choice of roll, 2 entrees, rice, miso soup, and appetizer. Very filling and a lot of food for the price. Even if I have to stare at Colin stuffing his face with raw-goodness, I'm satisfied with my bento. So, let's bento people!

4. Pulled pork sandwiches w/coleslaw
Ever since Colin found a recipe for slow-cooked pulled pork I nag him about once a week to make it for us. If I'm lucky he'll whip up a batch of homemade sesame buns too! I love to put KFC coleslaw on mine. If you have a crock pot this recipe is a breeze. Marinate your pork shoulders for a couple of hours ( or overnight if you want ) and then drop them in your slow cooker with some spicy juices and forget about them for 5 hours. So simple and easy!

5. Cannelloni
If you want something cheesy and oh so rich, this is what I recommend. Although I can't come close to La Rustica's in West Seattle, my cannellonis still curb my craving enough to stop me from whining about being so far away from one of my favorite Italian restaurants while I'm pregnant. (sometimes I feel this is truely an injustice!) Although it takes me about 2 hours to put these together, it's definitely worth it.

6. Megan and Romone's spicy chicken wings
I only got to indulge in these once when we had a bbq on Lake Washington, but DAMN they were mighty tasty!! I've got a mind to drag them up here and make them my personal chicken wing making slaves. Spicy, a teensy sweet and cooked to perfection! I suggest you email Megan and get the recipe.

7. Porterhouse Fish 'n' Chips
Although it pains me to go into a brew house where I'm surrounded by a dazzling array of glorious micro brews, the Porterhouse in Mount Vernon has by far the best fish 'n' chips I've ever had. Now, I have to admit it's mostly the fries and tarter sauce I crave when I go there, but their fish is beer battered and since that's about as close as I can get to beer right now I'm a happy camper.

8. Fruit smoothies
Fruit is listed as the #1 thing that pregnant women crave and I have to agree that I wake up most days wanting something on the fruity side of things. The best way to go about it is smooooth it up! Jamba juice isn't too bad, but I prefer to make my own when I get motivated. Here's what I usually go for in mine:

strawberries
lime
plain yogurt
coconut milk
pineapple
ice

9. Brownies
You may have been wondering where my sweet tooth went. But it's still alive and kick'n! I love to whip up a batch of boxed brownies. Yup, that's right...boxed. I've tried homemade and I just can't come close to Duncan Hines chewy, fudgy brownies-in-a-box. I under cook them by about 5 mins to make them extra fudgy and add walnuts for a crunch. It's so easy and gives me the chocolate fix I need, fast.

10. Christine's corned beef
Now, I haven't been lucky enough to have Colin's mom's corned beef and cabbage while pregnant yet but I've been dreaming about it. ( seriously, I've had a couple of honest-to-goodness dreams where I wake up crying for my lost corned beef ) And if she pairs it with her tomato casserole I would be forever in her debt. Seriously one of the best meals I've ever had and I need a fix, and I need it NOW!

Cheers and good eats!
Aubree

Intro

Hi Everyone!

We are both super new to blogging ( amazing when you think about it-a software engineer/hardware guru and graphic designer both new to something that's been around for a long time online ) so please be patient if you notice anything funky-I'll be fixing/slicing/sprucing etc. daily.

I plan on ( as the pregnant one ) keeping a fairly active daily journal as well as polls, photos, facts, links etc to keep everyone we love up-to-date on what we believe is one of the most exciting times in our lives!

Please feel free to comment and check out the latest poll which asks: What do you think the sex of the baby is?
